At Prime Door, we take pride in being part of projects that serve the community, and one of our recent collaborations with a local Humane Society has been particularly meaningful. The organization provides a safe haven for abused and rescued animals, including dogs, cats, and even farm livestock. Their new expansion was designed to create an even more comfortable and functional space for both the animals and the dedicated staff who care for them. Our job was to ensure that the right doors and hardware were selected to meet the specific needs of the facility.
One of the primary challenges of this project was ensuring that the staff could easily monitor the animals without compromising on the quality of shelter spaces. To achieve this, we supplied doors equipped with custom glazing solutions. These included full-glass doors in certain areas, half-glass options, and vision lights, which are smaller 12”x12” windows built into the doors. This thoughtful use of glass allowed light to flow from the shelter areas to the corridors, helping create a more open and welcoming environment.
Visibility was crucial for safety and efficiency, allowing the staff to check on the animals while minimizing disruptions. The lighting also contributed to creating a less stressful environment for the animals themselves, promoting a sense of calm in their new surroundings.
We also provided hollow metal doors and frames for both the interior and exterior of the new building. Some of these frames were custom-made in our shop, where we pre-finish and weld them to ensure the highest quality. These doors and frames were chosen for their durability and security, especially in areas with high traffic or exposure to the elements.
For this project, our team created both standard and custom-sized frames to fit the unique architectural design of the expansion. The pre-finished metal frames offer a sleek, professional look that complements the facility’s aesthetic while ensuring long-lasting performance.
In addition to metal doors, we provided laminated solid-core wood doors in selected areas to add a touch of warmth and comfort to the facility. These wood doors, paired with our high-quality glazing kits, create a balance of functionality and design.
At the end of the day, the Humane Society’s new facility was built to be safe, functional, and welcoming for all who use it—both the humans and the animals. We’re proud to have played a role in creating a space that will serve the community for years to come.
